Universal Life Insurance in Lubbock

Universal life is permanent coverage with some give in it. Your premium can move up or down, and the face amount can be raised or lowered within the insurer's rules. We set it up so you know what keeps it funded, and we stand with your family through the claim later.

Lifelong Coverage That Can Adjust Over Time

Universal life is made of two pieces: the death benefit and a cash value account behind it. Each month the insurer takes insurance charges and fees out of that account, and the balance earns interest. Pay extra in a strong year and the account grows. Pay less in a lean year and the account can cover the gap, as long as enough has accumulated.

People pick universal life for that flexibility, and that same flexibility is where trouble starts. Insurance charges climb with age, so a policy paid at the minimum can run short decades down the road. We show you the projections in plain figures before you apply, then review your yearly statement with you so nothing slips by.

If you mostly need coverage for a fixed number of years, term life insurance is typically cheaper. If you prefer a premium that never changes and steady cash value growth, whole life insurance may be a better match. We will give you a straight answer on which fits.

What You Get When We Work Together

The goal comes first
Before we quote anything, we ask what the policy needs to do. That could be replacing income your family would lose, covering a business loan, leaving an inheritance or paying final costs. Your answer decides the face amount, not a sales target.
The types of universal life compared
Guaranteed universal life keeps you covered to a chosen age when you pay the scheduled premium. Current assumption and indexed policies grow more cash value but come with more risk. We put the tradeoffs next to each other.
Every illustration walked through
Each illustration carries two sets of figures: what the insurer guarantees in any case, and what it expects if current rates continue. We go through both so you can see how the policy holds up if rates come in lower.
Beneficiaries and riders set up
We help you list primary and contingent beneficiaries properly and weigh whether riders such as accelerated benefits or a waiver of charges are worth the cost.
Yearly policy reviews
Every year we go over your statement with you, hold it up against the original projection and point out any funding gap early, when it is still simple to correct.
Support for your family down the road
When a claim needs to be filed, we explain what the insurer will request, such as an official death certificate copy and its claim form, and help your beneficiary collect it. The insurer decides the claim and the timing, and we say so plainly.

Signs Universal Life May Be the Right Fit

  • Your income changes year to year

Farm, ranch and commission income rarely arrives evenly. Adjustable premiums let you pay more in strong years and ease off in lean ones.

  • You need coverage past age 80

Term policies usually end before then. A guaranteed universal life policy can keep coverage in place into your 90s or beyond.

  • Your term policy is ending

Many term policies can be converted to permanent coverage without new health questions. We check whether yours has that option and what the deadline is.

  • You own a business with a partner

A buy-sell agreement often needs permanent coverage on each owner. Universal life can fund that at a lower cost than whole life.

  • You have an old policy you do not understand

If your statements show the cash value shrinking, the policy may be underfunded. We read it with you and explain your choices.

How Setting Up Your Policy Works

  1. 1

    A conversation by phone

We talk about your goals, budget, health and any coverage you already have. There is no obligation to buy anything.

  2. 2

    Side-by-side quotes

We bring back options from different carriers, showing the premium needed to keep each policy in force to the age you choose. You see the guaranteed and projected figures for each.

  3. 3

    Application and underwriting

We complete the forms together and check your health answers carefully so the underwriter finds no surprises. Depending on your age and the coverage amount, the carrier might want a short nurse visit, a blood and urine sample or copies of your doctor's notes. You hear from us about each requirement before it shows up.

  4. 4

    Delivery and review

When the policy is approved, we go over the final contract with you, confirm beneficiaries and premium schedule, and set a date for your first annual check-in.

What Shapes Your Premium

The insurer sets a universal life premium from its read of your risk and from the funding level you pick. Two applicants born the same year may see very different quotes depending on the guarantees they want. We walk through each factor so the number in front of you makes sense.

Age and health
Younger, healthier applicants get better rate classes. Tobacco use, blood pressure, prescriptions and family history all play a part.
Face amount
A larger death benefit means higher cost of insurance charges every month.
Length of the guarantee
Guaranteeing coverage to age 121 costs more than guaranteeing it to 90. Choosing the right age is one of the biggest levers you have.
Policy type and funding
Guaranteed universal life usually has the lowest premium for lifelong coverage but little cash value. Funding a policy for cash value growth means paying more up front.
Riders
Add-ons such as accelerated benefits, a child rider or waiver of charges each change the monthly cost.

Common Questions About Universal Life

Something not covered here? (806) 605-0315

What makes universal life different from whole life?

Whole life keeps the premium the same forever, and its cash value builds on a schedule set in the contract. Universal life lets you pay more or less, and in some cases change the death benefit, while cash value grows at whatever rate the insurer credits. That flexibility often brings a lower starting premium, but the policy needs regular review.

Is it possible for a universal life policy to lapse?

Yes. When the cash value is used up and your payments fall short of the monthly charges, the coverage can end. Guaranteed universal life prevents that as long as each scheduled premium arrives on time. We review the policy every year to spot a shortfall long before it becomes a problem.

Can I take money out of the cash value or borrow against it?

Most policies permit loans and partial withdrawals. A loan left unpaid lowers your beneficiary's payout, and withdrawals can raise the chance of a lapse. Before you take anything out, we show you how it changes the policy.

How does my beneficiary file a claim?

They contact us or the insurer, complete the insurer's claim form and send an official death certificate copy, along with the policy number if they have it. We help them pull the papers together and answer their questions as they go. The insurer reviews the claim and decides the timing, particularly when the policy is under two years old.

Is a medical exam required?

That depends on your age, your health and the coverage amount. Some carriers approve smaller policies from health questions and a records check, while bigger amounts usually call for a paramedical exam. We let you know which one applies before you apply.
