Retirement Income Planning in Lubbock
We help you see where your monthly income will come from once the paychecks stop, and how annuities and cash value life insurance can fill the gaps. Every payout option is explained in writing before you commit to anything.
Turning savings into a paycheck you can count on
By the time work winds down, most people draw on several sources at once. There's a Social Security check, sometimes an employer pension, retirement accounts built up over decades, and now and then a life insurance policy that has quietly gathered cash value. Retirement income planning puts all of it on one page so you can see what arrives each month, and what changes if you live well past the age you planned for.
We handle the insurance pieces of the plan. That means fixed and fixed indexed annuities, income riders, and the cash value that builds inside whole life or universal life coverage. For each one, you'll see how money comes out, what an early withdrawal costs, and what your beneficiary would receive later.
If a question belongs with your tax preparer or a financial adviser, we tell you that plainly.
What we go over with you
An income map
We list every source you expect, with start dates and amounts. Then we find the months or years where income falls short of what you spend.
Annuity options side by side
We compare fixed and fixed indexed annuities: how long your money is committed, the surrender charges, and whether payments last for life or a set period. Nothing is described as guaranteed unless the contract says so.
Cash value in a policy you already own
If you carry whole life or universal life coverage, we read the policy with you. We explain loans and withdrawals, and how each one shrinks the amount your beneficiary receives.
Spouse and beneficiary checks
We look at how income continues if one spouse dies first. We also confirm the beneficiary designation on every contract matches your wishes, since an outdated name can hold up a claim for months.
A written summary to keep
You get a plain summary of each option we discussed, with the contract terms that matter marked, so you can review it at your own pace or go over it with family.
When an income plan is worth starting
You're within five years of retiring
In those last few working years, decisions about Social Security timing, pension elections and annuity purchases begin to become permanent. Starting the conversation sooner gives you more room to change course.
Your savings has no withdrawal plan
A 401(k) balance is not a paycheck. If you aren't sure how much you can draw each year without running short, it's worth a conversation.
A pension form asks you to pick a payout
Single-life and joint-and-survivor choices are usually permanent. We help you see what your spouse would receive under each before you sign.
You own a policy you've never really read
Plenty of people carry an older whole life or universal life policy and have never looked closely at the cash value statement. It may be a useful income source, or it may need attention before it lapses.
You worry about outliving your money
Lifetime income annuities were built for this concern. We explain what they provide and what they give up in flexibility.
How a planning conversation works
- 1
A first phone call
We ask about your planned retirement date, the income you expect, and what worries you most. No paperwork and no product talk yet.
- 2
Gathering your statements
We ask for your Social Security estimate, pension paperwork, account statements and any existing policies. We tell you exactly which pages we need, so you aren't digging through every file you own.
- 3
Options laid out in writing
We show two or three ways to close any income gap, with surrender periods, fees, rider costs and payout terms spelled out. If leaving things as they are is a reasonable choice, we say that too.
- 4
Application and follow-up
If you choose a contract, we go through the application with you line by line and explain the free-look period. When your first statement arrives, we check it with you so the numbers match what we discussed.
What affects the cost of an income plan
There's no charge for the planning conversation itself. What you pay comes from the products you choose, and those costs depend on a handful of things we explain before you sign. We don't quote numbers until we've seen your details, because the same annuity can work very differently for two people.
- Your age when income starts
- Annuity payout rates depend heavily on age. Starting income later usually raises the monthly amount, while starting sooner spreads the money over more years.
- Riders and extra features
- Income riders, inflation adjustments and joint-life payments add protection, but they carry fees or lower the base payment. We show the cost of each one separately so you can decide what's worth it.
- How long your money is committed
- Contracts with longer surrender periods often offer better terms, but pulling money out early can trigger a charge. We match the length to when you might actually need the cash.
- Your health, if new coverage is involved
- When part of the plan includes a new whole life or universal life policy, underwriting results set the premium. Existing policies are already priced, so there we focus on how the cash value behaves.
Retirement income questions we hear often
Something not covered here? (806) 605-0315
Are you a financial adviser?
We're a life insurance agency, so we focus on insurance-based income tools like annuities and cash value policies. We don't manage investment accounts. When a question is about stocks, funds or taxes, we suggest bringing in your tax preparer or adviser, and we're glad to work alongside them.
Will an annuity guarantee my income?
Some annuities include lifetime income guarantees, and those are backed by the claims-paying ability of the issuing insurer. We point you to the exact contract language for any guarantee. We also explain what isn't promised, such as how indexed credits can vary from year to year.
Can I use my existing life insurance for retirement income?
Many times, yes, as long as the policy has built up cash value, which is common with whole life and universal life coverage. Borrowing against it or making withdrawals can give you money to spend, but either one lowers the amount your beneficiary will receive. A universal life policy can also lapse if loans grow unchecked, so we go over your latest statement together before you draw anything.
What happens to my annuity when I die?
That depends on the payout option you pick. Some payments stop at death, some continue to a spouse, and some return remaining value to a beneficiary. We walk through the claim steps your family would follow, including the documents the insurer usually asks for, so nobody is caught off guard later.
Do I need to meet in person?
No. Most of our planning happens by phone, and we mail written summaries for you to review. Clients in Lubbock, Shallowater, Abernathy and Tahoka often handle the whole process without making a single trip.
